In early 2000, I was a Ph.D. student at Groningen University in The Netherlands, I spent a month at Brown University in Providence, RI as a visiting scholar. To keep my loved ones on the other side up to date on what was going on, I kept a small diary that could be accessed over the internet. Fortunately, we had just bough a digital camera.

These pages were stored on the RuG servers and were erased after I left the university. In the spring of 2003, I restored the diary from backup and put it on this site. The pages have been brought up to date, style-wise, but all the content is original. Since I was writing to the folks at home, the story is in Dutch, including the old introduction:
